Modern Warfare 2 is a first-person tactical shooter and the sixth entry in the popular Call of Duty series. True to its name and following the lead of its predecessor, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, it places players in modern combat settings, as opposed to the WWII environments of the earlier Call of Duty games. This modern approach brings with it new weapons, action and options. Coupled with a variety of gameplay modes including single player, multiplayer and the co-op Special Ops Mode, it is destined to be one of the most popular games of 2009 and a worthy addition to the Call of Duty series. The storyline of Modern Warfare 2 picks up where the events of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare left off. The ultranationalist Russian leader Zakhaev has been eliminated,

but it seems that his lieutenant, Vladimir Makarov, is an even bigger danger. Having made a successful play for power, Intel indicates that he is extending the reach of his influence well beyond the borders of Mother Russia, causing a stir in the international community and prompting the involvement of Task Force 141. Task Force 141 is an elite multinational unit made up of Navy Seals, Delta Force operatives, British SAS and CIA. In the single player campaign you are Sergeant Gary "Roach" Sanderson, with the hero of Call of Duty 4, "Soap" MacTavish, promoted to Captain, making an appearance as an NPC (non-player character) and your commanding officer. The elimination of Makarov and his underlings at any cost is your number one priority, regardless where the fight occurs.

2009 TNJ Cosplay Contest in store winners!

Here are the winners of the 3rd annual Toys N Joys Halloween Cosplay Contest! They all deservedly won, even though it was really tough competition this year from a great number of well designed and thought out costumes from various contestants.

The Grand Prize winner, Itsuki (Sengoku Basara), was our top choice because of her accessorym the huge hammer! There was a lot of craft and care in the hammer and her costume was very inventive, especially in using beach mats for her wrist bands and leggings.

For Most Original, we chose Master Chief, because it was simply an impressive design, including LED lights for his mask. Bumblebee and Monster Hunters were honorable mentions and they best captured the essence of the original characters.

In the Most Accurate were given to standout cosplayers that really captured the original designs of the characters. In regards to Marcus from GEARS OF WAR, it took him 8 months to design the costume. Link and Kakashi were spitting images of the original characters too.

Overall, it was a super fun event with lots of stiff competition. Remember, voting for the Fan Favorite starts today so the contest is not over!

It's a wrap! 3rd annual Toys n' Joys cosplay contest recap

Suffering from post Halloween blues? Time to tuck away your Naruto costume back into the closet. Well, cosplay was extra special this year, and we want to shout out a BIG MAHALO to all the contestants who participated in the 3rd annual Toys n Joys Halloween Cosplay Contest. It was a smashing success. The cosplay was fierce this year and many of you upped your game, with clever and well made costumes. We could tell that a lot of thought and labor went into the construction of many of the costumes and we're so glad to provide a venue to showcase your hard work and love for anime and videogames!



We passed out many prizes that night but the competition isn't over yet. No sir-ee, we've got one more prize to give out, THE FAN FAVORITE! Now, the power is in your hands, by voting for your favorite contestant! The competition launches tomorrow.

Therefore, visit this blog tomorrow and peruse through all the images of the contestants and vote for your favorite cosplayer. We'll have the voting period through the week and announce the winner on Friday.

Just a quick reminder that Halloween is this weekend and to kick it off, youve got to enter the TNJ 2009 Halloween Cosplay Contest this Friday Oct. 30th! All details to register are located here. We are still accepting entrants so please get em in soon! Also we are waiving the fee for all online and in store entries until tomorrow, so this is your last chance! Come and cosplay and win prizes like a PS3, PSP Go! or a Nintendo DSi. It's a great way to also mingle with your friends and have a fun time by showing off your creativity. Fly your Otaku flag and dress up as your favorite anime character! So come down and represent and showcase the very best cosplay on the Island! Toys N Joys Halloween Cosplay Contest! We expect to have record turn out of contestants, so register in advance! Each year, the quality and creativity of the costumes get better and this year, expect some really elaborate costumes! Last year, I saw awesome costumes inspired by Naruto, Iron Man, Final Fantasy and Star Wars! What was also great was that a lot of families participated, so it was a family affair.

Grant Kawasaki, local TV chef, and Anderson Le, HIFF coordinator, will be guest judging this year. It should be a lot of fun, especially since this year's contest will be on Halloween Eve.
